Some people seem to look down on Shoujo, or shrug off their shoulders, thinking it’s just steamy girly romances. Hey, I used to be like that *slaps myself*, but, Shoujo Manga, is it as simple as people think?
When it comes to Shoujo, people often think of romances. Actually that’s not quite right.
Shoujo definition quoted verbatim:
“The target audience of this genre is female. The content of these manga is often related to romance, focusing on investing in characters.”
Note that shoujo is usually associated with romantic feelings, not necessarily romantic feelings. It is necessary to have romantic feelings, which is romance :v
Massive shoujo, the kind of sloppy affection one would think of used to serve a girl’s romantic soul, for the most part. That’s actually pretty good. It helps me entertain effectively and see life more beautiful, as long as I know the difference between reality and story.
Shoujo Manga However, there are still shoujo series whose theme is not love. The love in it is only added to create a romantic atmosphere. For example, Beauty Pop, Cantabile Nodame, Skip Beat, Sailor Moon… because the emotional needs of women are quite high, so the popular shows are full of pink emotions.
Those series often repeat a few motifs, making the reader easily bored. To put it bluntly, those sets are the same as the ecchi harems that are in mass production these days. It was born to meet human needs, but that was only temporary. Then they will quickly sink into oblivion, because it will sink in the middle of a bunch of stories with the same motif and character shaping :v except for works that are at the forefront of motifs, such as Hana Yori Dango.
Good and special series are usually not popular but will last forever. Because it’s a shoujo, the author is a female, so the emotions are delicately conveyed, sometimes even more impressive than shounen :3
Advice: if you want to find a good shoujo, you have to dig deep to find it. And since this is a place where young girls grow up, sometimes I will also go off topic and introduce some romances that you guys like but don’t tag shoujo for everyone :’3
